From 18 to May 20th , 2015, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, was held 8th . Meeting of the WHO Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI). Republic of Macedonia participates in data collecting through anthropometric measurements of children from second grade in primary schools in Macedonia, as well as additional information about the school environment and the risks associated with nutrition in that environment. So far, Macedonia took part in the second and third round of data collection, and participation in the fourth round, is scheduled for spring 2016. COSI initiative is one of the most important initiatives for surveillance in the WHO European Region which involves 25 countries, and the number of participants in each round increases all the time. Republic of Macedonia is an important factor in the initiative and a good example of surveillance system of the nutritional status of children.
Activities related to the monitoring of increased body weight and children obesity in Macedonia are financed by the Ministry of Health, through the National Annual Programme for Public Health and are pursued by Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Macedonia and Centers of Public health in the country.
